Important: SMRC Payroll is currently in pre-release development. Tax, NI, statutory pay, pension rules and official outputs require formal validation. Fraud-prevention data is a registered “Yes” design requirement, but live HMRC filing remains locked pending implementation, Test API evidence, onboarding and recognition. The day-to-day product
The sections below outline the main payroll workflows available in the Windows application.
Persist detailed employer and employee records in SQLite, including personal, employment, pay and year-to-date information.
Build payroll runs using stored tax-year settings for gross pay, PAYE, National Insurance, deductions, pensions and net pay.
Store completed runs, update employee year-to-date totals and review historic payroll from the application.
Preview individual payslips and export structured PDF packs with a batch summary and email-ready manifest.
Produce payroll summaries, employee lists, P32, P45 and P60 working drafts from saved payroll and year-to-date data.
Protect local records with backup, restore, schema-version management and automatic pre-migration copies.
Payroll workflow
Enter PAYE, bank, pension, allowance and year-to-date settings.
Record identity, work, pay, tax, student-loan and pension information.
Review regular pay, overtime, bonus, deductions and statutory absences.
Run draft calculations, resolve warnings and confirm the pay-period totals.
Save the run, update YTD totals and create payslip/report packs.
Create draft FPS/EPS output. Live transmission remains locked until approved.

SMRC creates structured documents from saved payroll data. Current output is suitable for product testing; official form accuracy and production delivery still need validation.

No. Registration and developer-test work are in progress. SMRC must not be used to claim a live HMRC submission or acceptance until recognition testing is completed.

Yes. Employer, employee, payroll-run, CIS and audit information can be stored in the local SQLite database, with migration history and backups.
The Downloads page will publish the signed release package after approval. Only the approved installer will be published.
